History and origins of the LIVE VIBE event

In 1999 an event was launched at the legendary Spitz venue, which was specifically made for both new and established acts to experiment and share their work in front of a live audience. It also gave artistic director, Hakeem Onibudo an opportunity to develop and shape the ethos and identity of the now well known performance style of Impact Dance. The night at the Spitz enjoyed an eight year run giving opportunities to many dance companies, acts and artistes from all styles of performance to share their work with audiences. At this show, some existing companies began their own careers including:

Flawless (Britain’s Got Talent Finalists)/Boy Blue Entertainment (Oliver Award Winners Pied Piper)/Zoonation (Into the Hoods-Novello Theatre)/C-12 Dance Theatre (Dance Umbrella 2008/Edinburgh Fringe 2009)/Avant Garde (Choreodrome@ the Place/Edinburgh Fringe 2009)

The Spitz closed down in 2007, but we were fortunate to continue the event at Sadler’s Wells under the new name of LIVE VIBE

Live Vibe is a concept and brand created and produced by Hakeem Onibudo

The Concept of Live Vibe

Live Vibe at Sadler’s Wells offers a rare opportunity for young artistes from the worlds of dance, music, spoken word and beyond, to present work in a professional environment during the early stages of their careers, and to give invaluable experience of performing in a top London arts venue alongside established professional companies. The event is curated and compered by Hakeem Onibudo and there is a large emphasis on audience participation and interaction.
