Live Vibe is an original concept which offers a rare opportunity for young artists from the worlds of dance, music, spoken word to present work in a professional environment during the early stages of their careers, as well as the invaluable experience of performing in a top arts venue alongside established professional companies. Created by Hakeem “Mr Impact” Onibudo, it showcases the hottest raw dance talent in an inspirational, interactive atmosphere. With the support of trained mentors, it helps them take their craft to the next level.

Live Vibe began in the UK in 2009 at Sadler’s Wells, London. Starting with its theme of ELEMENTS, it soon became a popular live interactive show gaining Arts Council funding in 2010. This led to the “Live Vibe at the Movies” series to be produced at the Lilian Baylis Studio. The four shows culminated in a fifth show at the Peacock theatre in January 2011, featuring the four finalists of the LBS series performing alongside street dance giants, Flawless. Since then Live Vibe has been resident at Rich Mix and The Place. Three separate versions (Samples and Interpolations (2017), Two’s a Company (2018) and Raw (2018) were hosted by The Place (Contemporary Dance Trust).

In 2011-2012, Live Vibe made its first appearance on the continent of Africa. It was supported by the British Council and made an outstanding impact in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The next international venture for Live Vibe was to Caracas, Venezuela in April 2017.

Sounds and rhythms from Africa have been moving us for generations. Blues, Reggae, Jazz, Funk, Disco, Hip-Hop, House.

Our bodies have responded very differently to these various genres of music, creating extremely rich and diverse movement vocabulary.

The festival was a celebration of the contribution from national and international artists to this legacy and encourage the youth to find their voice and push the boundaries of expression.
